TECH SUMMIT
In October 2024 we worked alongside our long-standing clients at WIRED magazine to assist them in producing the 2024 Energy Tech Summit, in conjunction with Octopus Energy.
This event was a follow on from the very successful inaugural event we produced in Outernet London in 2023. This time the event was to take place in the iconic Kraftwerk Berlin, a massive disused power station in the centre of the German capital. The venue is a striking piece of utilitarian architecture, with masses of exposed concrete expansive ceiling heights, and countless interesting nooks and crannies. Being a ‘dry hire’ venue with little to no infrastructure, extensive production planning was required to deliver the event for over 500 attendees safely.

With ceiling heights of 30m, we decided to move away from the ‘traditional’ 16:9 aspect screen for the main conference, opting instead for an Instagram worthy 8m tall portrait LED wall, which perfectly complimented the cathedralesque proportions of the event space.

We delivered all content playback to screens, comprising of custom created backgrounds, VTs and presenter content. We also provided 6 cameras to record on stage proceedings from all angles. As well as providing full presentation recordings, we also delivered on demand social media snippets as talks went on, as well as a full highlights reel post event.
We worked alongside Satis&fy, who are a local AV supplier very familiar with the venue to design suitable lighting, sound, video and power systems to deliver the event whilst making the most of the amazing venues potential. An extensive lighting system was installed overhead to provide stage wash, house lighting and feature accents. Over 120 LED up lighters were installed on the columns and architectural features to emphasise the amazing space.
Careful sound design was required to ensure all delegates could hear clearly, as every surface was hard reflective concrete, which we did not want to cover with sound absorbing drapery, else we would lose the impact of the venue.
Another challenge with this event was the delivery of ‘the worlds largest collaborative VR experience’ 300 VR headsets were used in an installation on the ground floor area of the venue, which required a separate full lighting and sound rig, along with extensive power distribution, and a complex WiFi network capable of the critical data communication required for 300 VR headsets to seamlessly be able to interact with one another. We worked alongside local IT provider CBXNet to deliver this aspect faultlessly.
Whilst technically challenging, this event was hugely successful, and is testament to our commitment to delivering flawless events to our clients, with the same high levels of production, wherever in the world the event may take place.
